Looking Back, Moving Forward: Growing From the Roots

  • Haystack Mountain School of Crafts (map)

I will be teaching a hands on workshop at the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, in Deer Isle Maine!

Registration TBA.

Here is the course description:

Using folk pottery traditions  as the springboard, in this workshop we will be using brushwork, stamping, and incising, to find our contemporary voices. Participants will be guided through a series of lively throwing and surface decoration demos, as well as fun brushwork exercises. There will be time to experiment with the relationships between form and surface, function and imagery, as well as pattern development. The class will be using high fire stoneware clay and we’ll explore a variety of slip and glaze strategies for the salt kiln including pigmented wax resist and latex resist.

We will discuss the day to day practicalities of life as a studio potter and develop a sense of curiosity and playfulness that can help our work evolve.

All levels welcome.
